The Florida State College at Jacksonville board of trustees will hear updates Tuesday on two reports examining internal issues, including wrongly awarded Pell Grants to at least 700 students.
Jacksonville attorney Bill Scheu will present his work on how the school errantly gave out the grants during Tuesday’s board meeting, according to the meeting agenda. The college has said many of those students will have to repay the money — which totals at least $2.8 million.
“It’s going to be more of an institutional look at it so that the public can be assured that the college is back on the right
track,” Scheu said to the Times-Union in June.
FSCJ Provost Judith Bilksy will update the status of an organizational review from MGT of America, the agenda says. That reports is expected to examine the college’s units and executive leadership, effectiveness, review of financial management policies, the role of the executive vice president and the college’s policies on travel, entertainment, hospitality and other related matters.
Tallahassee-based MGT’s report should be finished in September.
Board members meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for “strategic conversations” in the downtown campus’ Advanced Technology Center. The voting meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the administrative building.
